25 May 1886 The Atlanta Constitution UNDERTAKERS CONVENTION The Undertakers of the State Meet in Atlanta to Organize an Association The undertakers of Georgia will meet in Atlanta this morning. The meeting has for its object the formation of an association to be known as "The Undertakers Association of the State of Georgia." Several months ago Professor Clark, of Springfield, Ohio -- an undertaker and embalmer of national fame, came to Atlanta where he delivered several lectures on embalming -- his audience being undertakers of carious cities in the state. At that time the professor suggested the formation of a state association. The suggestion met with the approbation of every one to whom it was mentioned, and in order to give the matter shape Professor Clark suggested that Mr. F. X. Bliley, Mr. C. H. Swift and Mr. H. M. Patterson form themselves into a committee and draw up a circular suggesting the meeting and send a copy to every undertaker in the state. The gentlemen acted upon the suggestion, and, in addition to setting forth the advantages of the association, called for a meeting of the undertakers of the state at the Kimball house on the 25th of May. Responses were received from quite a number of undertakers promising to be present. There are about one hundred and sixty undertakers in the state. The convention will last three days. Five or six undertakers arrived last night. |
